Day 4- Central Park and the Late Show

On our last full day in New York we stayed pretty busy. We got up in the morning and went to the top of Rockefeller Center. After that we weaved through some of Central Park and ate in a nice neighborhood on the Upper West Side. Karlee and Jo took off to do some serious shopping while my dad and I went to the Late Show with David Letterman. The Late Show was a lot of fun (Charles Barkley was the main guest) and it was interesting to see the Ed Sullivan Theater (which they keep amazingly cold). After the show got over, we met up with Karlee and my mom and had our last and best dinner in Manhattan. The place served excellent Mexican food and a pretty good margherita too.

Day 3b- Yankee's game

The original reason for the trip to New York was to see a Yankees game. Not only did we see a Yankees game, but a Yankees/Red Sox game. It was a much different experience watching a game in New York than it is watching a game in Seattle. First of all, the fans in New York seemed to know a little more about baseball. Second, since the hated Red Soxs were in town there were fights everywhere. I would guess there was easily 10+ fights in our general area. Cops ran from one section to another kicking people out from about the fourth inning on. The funny thing was that about half the fights were between girls.
We got to the stadium a little early and went out to see Monument Park (they have the retired numbers and plaques of great Yankees). Before the game, my dad and I walked around the stadium and poked our heads out in a couple different sections. Yankee Stadium is an amazing place to watch a game, but the concessions, bathrooms, etc... are not the greatest. I guess we will have to go out in a couple years to check out the new Yankee Stadium.

Day 3a

After walking around 15 miles the day before, we were all a little sore come Monday. However, we still hit the pavement pretty well. We got up and out of the hotel around 8 and decided to just walk by Rockefeller Center to see the commotion involved around recording the Today show. The funny thing was that all the crazy people that start waiting at the Today show at about 5 am so that they can get on TV, start losing steam around 8:30. So when we got there, Karlee and Jo got a spot right on the railing. After thwarting a British teens attempt to knock them off the fence, they got to watch first hand a cooking segment of the show and at least made it on TV once. After the show they got a picture with host, Natalie Maralis (sp) as we were leaving. After we left the Today show we went over to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). It was interesting to see. Some of the stuff was a little too 'modern' and maybe I just didn't understand it. My mom promised that if I bought her the canvis and paint that she could make something that was as good as some of the stuff we saw. I am going to hold her to it for sure. Karlee had the most fun at the museum since she took a modern art class at Bozeman.
After the museum we were hungry and ran into the Stage Deli. As you can see the portions were fairly large and mom got her rhueben fix for the trip. More to come later...

Day 2B - NYC

Our next adventure involved a boat and the Statue of Liberty. Instead of waiting in a long line for the ferry to the statue, we decided to take a boat tour around the harbor. We rode under the Brooklyn bridge and near the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island. Thankfully, the weather was warm and sunny.

This evening, we went to Spamalot - a very funny show and lots of fun. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of us all dressed up . . .

NYC - Day 2a

That's right, this post is Day 2A because day 2 was too big for 1 post . . . we walked over ten miles. Needless to say, we're all a little sore and tired.

We started off with breakfast, then walked down the riverfront to Ground Zero. There is a lot of construction going on there now.

It was a warm, sunny day and perfect for exploring the city.

Day 1 - NYC

Well, we made the long journey and are enjoying our trip to New York City. You'll have to excuse our first day's pictures . . . we got up around 3:30 in the morning and have been walking to Central Park in the rain. We arrived, walked around Times Square a bit and then enjoyed a good dinner at an "American" restaurant. Stay tuned - we should look more lively in future pictures.
