Barbados: Day 3

Whew ... day 3 was a big one - and one that will require multiple blog posts. Tonight will just be a teaser with many beautiful island pictures to come...

Today, we all loaded up into our 2 vehicles and headed out to Charlie's world-famous (OK, maybe not world famous) "Roots and Culture Island Tour". It is very convenient to have our own personal tour guide!

Our hotel is along the southern coast of Barbados. For a little background: the island is roughly 11 miles by 13 miles (we covered most of those miles today) and inhabited by 280,000 people. It is made up of 11 parishes (equivalent to states in the US). There are 4 cities in Barbados, but they are mostly commercial and the residential areas are outside of the cities.

There are many beautiful and brightly colored houses around the island. However, there is an interesting law that you pay significantly lower property taxes until you paint your house --- as a result, some (otherwise finished) houses are still cement colored.

On to the rest of our tour ...
